20 Great Ideas for Christmas

20 Great Ideas for Christmas

Celebrate 20 years of great sound with Totally Wired - our 20 most excellent  ideas for christmas cover all the bases. The ever popular Tivoli Radio models, latest developments in Wireless systems from Sonos, a bevy of neat new products and proven favorites, both analogue and digital. Not surprisingly a good number of these connect to iPods and computers which says a lot about the times in which we live.

In 20 years we've seen some of the names remain the same, but the range of performance, quality and choice has been hugely broadened. Totally Wired has evolved, but at the core we're still the same people. We get a kick out of better sound and keep looking for new ways to bring this into your home.

So, it's a big thank you to all our clients for the last 20 years and here's looking forward to a happy christmas and the 21st year from Sharon & John at Totally Wired.

Introducing Geneva

Introducing Geneva

Based in Switzerland, Geneva Lab design a range of what we could best describe as very high quality single box systems that just happen to play iPods. Geneva systems are an effective rethink as to what constitutes great sound and ask a fundamental question - do you need two physically separate stereo speakers to enjoy music? You may well be as skeptical as we were until we actually got our hands on one.

The actual build quality is immediately obvious - flawless gloss finish, substantial weight. The sound quality is also self evident. This hasn't come about by accident - Geneva Lab have devoted considerable resources to the development of the range of 5 models and we're pleased to report that it's all worthwhile.

Best of all the Geneva models are more affordable than we expected - starting at just $649 they make far more than just a design statement - learn more on our introductory page here.

Sonos S5 Special

Sonos S5 Special

The Sonos S5 is a high-performance, all-in-one wireless music system that delivers crystal-clear, room-filling sound. Simply plug it in wherever you want music and enjoy. The 5-driver speaker system is individually powered by 5 dedicated digital amplifiers and sounds just great.

We've just got this great special from Sonos - buy two S5s (for two different rooms or even better sound in one) and you'll get the Zonebridge ($299) free - this enables you to extend the range of your Sonos system, remotely link into the music stored on your computer  and access both internet radio and other services.

And did you know that the S5 (NZ$999) is available in both black and white? We've got both.  Drop us a line to find out more. Or whistle into our Sonos page.

Well Tempered Turntable Updates

Well Tempered Turntable Updates
We've been enjoying our Well Tempered turntable at home for over a year now and have absolutely no regrets. In fact the more we use it, the better it seems to get. In part, we have become more adept at setup and have found the Amadeus to be both revealing and responsive to subtle adjustment of tonearm height and damping - all of which is easy to do. There have been a number of small but significant changes made to the standard Amadeus - the bearing has a triangular rather than square hole and squash ball feet have been employed.

A new and higher specification of the Amadeus GT is now in production - the Acrylic plinth has been replaced by a higher mass and more rigid Aluminium sandwich layer plinth - this model  (The Amadeus GTA) now retails in New Zealand for $5000

The Standard Amadeus with the dual layer MDF plinth has been happily reduced in price to NZ$3600

A new entry level model - the Well Tempered Simplex - has been introduced at just NZ$2750. We detailed this in a our newsletter a couple of months ago. And there's already a great review up at WitchDoctor.

We've also now had time to compare both the Amadeus and Simplex models more carefully. The Amadeus is proving to still have a significant performance advantage - the heavier sandwich layer plinths (in all versions), the larger diameter acrylic platter and additional isolation afforded by the extra base included as standard with the Amadeus all contribute to a even more stable and revealing performance for the better model. This doesn't diminish the remarkable value for money and absolute sound quality that the Simplex delivers - it just gives you more options with 3 well defined levels of Well Tempered refinement - The Simplex, the Amadeus and the new Amadeus GT with Aluminium plinth.

Finally - we have the very last new Acrylic plinth GT available - in gloss black, this is identical to our own home turntable and at the one-off special price of $4000 represents what we see as the best value within a range of exceptional options.
